New carnival company hired in hopes of bringing residents back

After disappointing 2010 event, Powhatan County Fair organizers are hoping that more attractions, better rides, and new contests will help restore county residents' faith in the fair. "We want Powhatan to have the fair it deserves," says organizer Runda Harris.

Authorities continue to seek motive in Powhatan slayings
Kenneth William Moore Jr., 47, was shot dead on his family’s farm as was a farm employee, Robert Linwood Mann Jr., 42, also of Powhatan.

UPDATE: Arrest made in double homicide in Powhatan
Jason Overbey, 32, of Amelia County, has been arrested and charged with two counts of first degree murder for the deaths of Kenneth William Moore, Jr., 47, and Robert Linwood Mann, Jr.,42, both of Powhatan County.

Q & A : Rev. Bryan Stevens
Reverend Bryan Stevens recently marked his one-year anniversary as the pastor of Powhatan’s Mount Zion Baptist Church. Originally from Caroline County, Stevens entered the ministry after a 35-year career at Philip Morris. After completing his seminary training at Virginia Union University, Stevens served as the Christian Education Director for Second Mount Zion Baptist Church in Dawn, Va. He recently sat down with Powhatan Today Editor Roslyn Ryan to discuss his path to the ministry, his love for Powhatan, and his plans to help bring more of the county’s youth back into the fold.

County ‘Survivors Club’? Count me in, please
As a survivor of early childhood cancer, I have no memories of chemo or radiation treatments, or of fraught conversations with doctors. I may have the odd surgical scar as a memento, but none of the psychic scarring that surely comes from waging such a battle when you actually know what’s going on.
